Executive Summary :

The project proposal aims to compile and create the most likely hydrologic profile of selected rivers in Western Himalayas in pre-large scale development period; to compile data, reports, results, and other relevant information pertaining to environmental flow assessment in rivers of India; and to apply and modify the existing suitable Environmental Flow Assessment (EFA) methods for a Himalayan River with limited ecosystem data. The study will contribute to development of tools for EFA in Indian context and particularly to the Himalayan region wherein a large number of hydropower projects are in different stages of planning, construction and operation. The expected outcome and deliverable of the project is a methodology to assess environmental flows of Himalayan rivers with the existing knowledge base.
