Brief Description

Description :

Employing bullocks and tractors for agricultural purposes is a traditional and very conventional method in India's rural areas. Efficient harnessing of animal power however remains ignored with the increasing use of fossil fuel and electricity. The Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG) IIT Delhi took the initiative for finding solutions to these issues. A better and efficient Bullock Driven Tractor (BDT) have been designed. It incorporates mechanism for lifting attachments. It is light weight and user friendly. Salient features of the equipment: Modified BDT is more efficient than the conventional plouhg ; It utilizes characteristics of a modern tractor, like providing comfort to the tiller; Rope & Winch mechanism is incorporated in modified BDT for lifting attachments such as harrow, cultivator, etc.; The incorporated mechanism is easy in operation & is cost effective; The iron chair has been replaced with a used-car chair to increase comfort of the farmer; Successful testing of BDT has been done at the micro model facility at IIT Delhi, using a tractor; Successful field testing of BDT using bullocks has been done at Dahina village, Rewari, Haryana. Impact of the Technology: Nearly 3 BDTs have been distributed (by RuTAG IIT Delhi); One BDT was sold through Innovative Products Delivery of FITT, IIT Delhi (Shantidhara Dugdh Yojna, Binaji Barah, Sagar, M.P.); Efficient harnessing of animal power.; Most suitable to farmers of small land holdings; Relief to farmers from increasing price of the fossil fuel and electricity, and environment friendly Success Stories: Currently, it is being used in M. P. and Haryana. Vendors have been identified for fabrication, manufacturing and assembly. Collaborations and Field Agency: Social Centre for Rural Initiative and Advancement (SCRIA), Khori, Rewari, Haryana; Madhya Pradesh Vigyan Sabha (MPVS), Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh; Wainganga Samudaik Vikas Kendra, Dhapewada, Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh; Shantidhara Dugdh Yojna, Binaji Barah, Sagar, M.P. Tentative Cost of BDT is about Rs. 25,000.
