Brief Description
Description : | Profenofos an important member of the Organothiophosphate class of insecticides is a cholinesterase inhibitor, non-systemic insecticide and acaricide with contact and stomach poison. With a view to overcome the pollution problem and to provide a better quality product, an innovative clean, green and cost effective technology was worked out avoiding mercaptan release. IICT approach for manufacture of profenofos involves 4 steps and cheap raw materials, which are also easily available, and therefore is easy to commercialize. The product is odourless and has a better impurity profile. IICT approach is a mercaptan free route, so overcomes a major effluent and pollution problem. It is an environmentally benign and cost effective technology. Major Raw Materials to be Utilized are 2-Chlorophenol, Bromine, inorganic and organic bases, n-Propyl bromide, DETC etc. PROFENOFOS has efficacy equivalent to Monocrotofos but has higher degree of safety to mammals. |
