Details
Executive Summary : | The project aims to treat the domestic wastewater, generated in the University Campus Pantanagar which is being discharged into a river without treatment. The methodology includes treating of water water through fertigation in vegetation filter experimental field with additional biochar application as an ecofreindly treatment technolgy for removal of pollutants. This method can easily harness the avaialable nutrient, organic and inorganic chemical present in domestic water water as a pollutant for increased biomass growth of bioenergy tree species. As a result the pollutatn load of receiving surface water body will subsequenty get reduced by treating through vegatation filter systeme. Besides, the biochar works as adsorbent for nutrient/pollutants and protect percolation these chemical thereby preventing ground water contamination. The expected outcome of the study is to develop a cleaner, sustainable, efficent and economic returns from waster. The secondary benefits of this plantation also include carbon sequestration, air purification by trees and mitigations of climate change. |
Total Budget (INR): | 32,96,600 |
Outcome/Output: | Development of demonstration sites based on eco-friendly wastewater treatment system for sustainable water resource management and Biomass production which can be further utilized as revolving fund to sustain the operation and maintenance of vegetation filter system.
The standardization of design parameters and technology, which can be further used by many other agencies such as Govt./NGOs/Industries/Municipal bodies/Researchers for environment protection.
Provided methodology for removal of water pollutants and promotion of bioenergy plantation for biomass, enhanced carbon sequestration and economic returns for benefits of the society.
The results from this study can be adopted accelerating concerted efforts of various concerned organization at national level, which would be a complimentary efforts for the Namami Gange, Clean India and Tree credit Campaign launched by Govt. of India. |
