Executive Summary :

This project shall investigate the thunderstorms, through the analyses of thermodynamic instability indices based on the observation as well as model simulations The main objective is to simulate wind squall with all its associated features over the study regions, with the help of a mesoscale model, two powerful observational tools: one the ground-based instruments (GPSsonde, Automatic weather station, Micro Rain Radar, Disdrometers, tower, Lightning sensors) and weather satellites [Cosomic. ROCSAT/FORMOSAT (GPS Radio Occultation), MODIS, QuickSAT, NOAA-NCEP/NCAR reanalysis, INSAT, TRMM Precipitation and Lightning Image sensor] are proposed to understand the genesis, development and propagation of these severe thunderstorms over the study regions of India.
