Executive Summary : | The research area focuses on the conversion of CO2 to valuable chemicals, with formic acid being a promising and innovative solution. Formic acid is a valuable commodity chemical with high demand, with a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 4.5%. Current methods of CO2 hydrogenation suffer from low efficiency and selectivity, limiting their commercial potential. The development of a cost-effective and efficient process for CO2 hydrogenation to formic acid could help overcome these challenges and accelerate the commercialization of this technology.
The proposal proposes a low-cost, highly selective catalyst and process for the direct conversion of CO2 to formic acid at mild reaction conditions. The catalyst will be evaluated in an autoclave reactor with gaseous hydrogen as the primary source, and other hydrogen sources will be developed. The reaction parameters will be optimized to maximize the yield of formic acid, and a suitable kinetic model will be developed for reactor design on a pilot plant scale. |
