Executive Summary : | The present project aims to develop surface Composite (sC) of a non heat treatable aluminum alloy AA5083 by adding Ni as Reinforcement Particle (RP). For making the sC, Friction stir Processing (FsP) has been chosen as this method of producing metal matrix composite does not involve melting of the substrate. Therefore, problems like intermetallic compound formation between the substrate and RP will not occur which makes the composite brittle in nature. RP like Ni provide hardness and tensile strength to the composite without losing any ductility. To achieve a AA5083 or Ni surface composite various process parameter like tool rotation speed, tool travelling speed, Tool dimensions etc. will be optimized and their effect on the material properties (wear, hardness, tensile and fatigue) will be studied. structure-property correlation and artificial intelligence modeling would be done to predict material properties and enable quick selection of the composite for a specific application requiring remarkable mechanical characteristics under harsh conditions. |
