Executive Summary : | Battery heat generation in automotive applications is a major challenge. Electric vehicle batteries are made up of arrays of cells. Heat is produced at the cell level while charging and discharging. The battery's temperature may rise above 40 ⁰C due to the heat generation. Temperatures above 40 ⁰C have a negative impact on battery performance and service life. As a result, an effective battery cooling system is required to ensure optimum temperature management of the battery system. The proposed research work focuses on understanding the heat generation mechanism and designing the proper cooling system to maintain the operating temperature of the battery in required range. The research study covers the design of heat pipe based passive cooling system and carrying out numerical simulation to arrive at the optimum design of the system. The experimentation will be done to validate the performance of the designed system configuration arrived from the numerical simulation. |
