Executive Summary : | The project aims to organize a Science Awareness Program in the Chamba State of Himachal Pradesh, India. The objective is to instill scientific temper among government school students about science and organize interactive sessions on science and scientific experiments. The project will involve a Science Communication Lecture Series, Science Essay Competition, and Scientific Idea Poster Presentation. The project will be conducted in English and Hindi, with a duration of 6 months from August 2022 to January 2023. Chamba is a hill and rural district with a population of 519,080, ranking 544th in India out of 640. The district has a sex ratio of 989 females for every 1000 males and a literacy rate of 73.19. The Gaddis, the largest Scheduled Tribe in Himachal Pradesh, mainly live in Chamba district. To address this issue, a survey was conducted in 15 schools from each district. The major findings revealed that students want to know about science and opportunities in science, wish to learn science experimentation techniques, and are not aware of the opportunities provided by the government and states.
The project will design a science outreach workshop to facilitate interaction between experts and students, teaching them about government schemes. The project will target 2000 direct beneficiaries from five workshops in Bhind and Morena, and 12,000 indirect beneficiaries from various categories, including Gen/OBC/SC/ST and other general beneficiaries. |
