Executive Summary : | The Neuroimaging and Neurospectroscopy lab is primarily interested in unraveling the Biomarkers for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). The project aims at establishing the sequential relationship between the key structural, neurochemical, functional and behavioral alterations that occur in AD and identifying the earliest pathological event associated with AD onset by employing multi-modal imaging techniques (MRI, MRS, fMRI). AD related oxidative stress is attributed to the decrease in the Brain Glutathione (GSH) level. This study aims to assess aforementioned macroscopic changes.
We investigate the possible role of GSH and GABA in cognitive deficits manifested in AD.
For the analysis part of the data acquired from MRI and MRS, we have developed a novel software tool KALPANA (Indian and International Patent), which focuses on assessment and quantification of brain PH, glutathione (GSH) and GABA in various study groups including normal healthy control (HC), MCI and AD. |
