Objective: The objective of proposed work is the development of an adsorption-based process for the up-gradation of coal bed methane with the following target:
Synthesis and screening of adsorbents with high CH4/N2 selectivity (> 5) and dynamic CH4 capacity (min. 2 mol/kg) for CBM up-gradation under relevant process conditions. Establishment of adsorption process for up-gradation of coal bed methane. CBM contains CH4 (20-60 vol. %), N2 (0-20 vol. %) along with CO2 (5-20 vol. %) and other hydrocarbons saturated with moisture. The adsorption process will be designed to achieve CH4 purity of >90vol. % for utilization as fuel for vehicular, CHP and domestic/industrial applications.
The process will also be checked for feed compositions provided by Indian CBM producing companies like ONGC Ltd. for CBM upgradation. Summary: The proposed research proposal focuses on fundamental research work leading to the development of an adsorption-based process for the up-gradation of Coal Bed Methane (CBM).
The proposed work will be carried out as follow:
Synthesis and screening of adsorbents with high CH4/N2 selectivity (>5) and dynamic CH4 capacity (min 2 mol/kg) for CBM up-gradation under relevant process conditions. Establishment of adsorption process for up-gradation of coal bed methane. CBM contains CH4 (20-60 vol. %), N2 (0-20 vol.%) along with CO2 (5-20 vol.%) and other hydrocarbons saturated with moisture. The adsorption process will be designed to achieve CH4 purity of >90vol. % for utilization as fuel for vehicular, CHP and domestic/industrial applications.
Identification of process parameters for continuous up-gradation of CBM. The process will also be checked for feed compositions provided by Indian CBM producing companies like ONGC Ltd. |
