Executive Summary : | The research proposal aims to investigate, design, and realize integrated photonic neural networks (PNNs) for all-optical neuromorphic computing. The main objectives include analyzing, designing, and modeling PNNs for AI-driven applications, designing and fabricating MZI-based OIUs on silicon/silicon nitride platforms, proposing numerical models for OIU and ONU devices, and demonstrating the effectiveness of MZI-based OIU as a hardware accelerator in ANNs. The project will involve six major tasks, including literature review, device design and simulation, circuit fabrication, device mounting and functional testing, and PIC system test and applications. The project will result in at least three journal publications and six conference publications, with one international patent expected. The project will benefit organizations looking to implement low power, high-speed neuromorphic computing facilities for their artificial intelligence-driven applications, such as internet providers, social media operators, online financial platform providers, human-machine interface-based device manufacturers, communication and network providers, automobile industries, pharmaceutical chemical industries, and more. The project's outcomes will be beneficial for organizations implementing low power, high-speed neuromorphic computing facilities for their artificial intelligence-driven applications. |
