Light weight Al-composite Manhole and manhole frames (engineering) (explored); Light weight Al-composite connecting rods (forge products); Light weight Al-composite nose cones (defence) (explored) Summary: The proposed work aims at large scale process development and its demonstration for Al-ceramic particles composites and hybrid composites. The expertise and facilities established in CSIR-AMPRI and the interaction made with the industries in defence, automobiles and manufacturing sectors will be utilized for products development as per the specifications of the stake holders and demonstration of the products in their actual use. In the process, after demonstration of the process and the products (some where we are presently working at initial stage) the know-how and technology will be transferred or disseminated to the stake holders or the industries assigned by the stakeholders. For making composites (cast composites Al-Si alloys will be used and for making wrought products 5XXX and 7XXX alloys will be used as matrix. The reinforcement will be SiC, Mullite and Al2O3 in micro and nano scale size upto 10 wt%. The deformation parameters and machining parameters will be optimized prior to technology dessimination. The materials so developed will be used for development of components like brake drums, connecting rods, Manhole and manhole cover in callaboration with Industries. |
