Objective: Development of a process on pilot scale for reduction of phosphorous content in high phosphorous Indian iron ore preferably from Odisha/M.P. region. Summary: There is a continuing and increasing need to produce pig iron with low phosphorus content. Phosphorus control has been a long term consideration in all steelmaking processes. No control of phosphorus in the pig iron product is achieved in the smelting process and generally all of the phosphorus present in the ore is reduced and alloyed in the pig iron. This ultimately affects the quality of steel during alloy steel making. Major source of phosphorous is in the matrix of iron in iron ore. The simplest method for producing low phosphorus pig iron would be to smelt low phosphorus bearing ores. Therefore, there is a need to develop a method of treating available iron ores to reduce their phosphorus content to an acceptable value. Therefore, the abundant unusable high phosphorus bearing ores can be used to increase the life of these oxide ore deposit in the world |
