Executive Summary : | The main motivation for this proposal is to develop novel machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms for automated identification, classification, and in-depth analysis of galactic and extra-galactic transient and variable sources using ongoing and forthcoming deep sky surveys. We aim to form a consortium of investigators from three BRICS countries to search for new transients and peculiar variable sources, generating an exhaustive catalogue that will be made available to the astronomical community through dedicated channels to facilitate the detailed study of star formation, stellar evolution, stellar transients, galactic and extra-galactic archaeology, and cosmological distance measurements. Follow-up analysis of interested identified sources will be performed using state-of-the-art observing facilities for high-precision photometry and high-resolution spectroscopy available with the partner institutions. The high-precision photometric and spectroscopic measurements of well-studied transients and variable sources will be used as inputs for the machine learning and artificial intelligence routines. The analysed data, algorithms, and outputs achieved will be carried out collectively to converge for better understanding of the interplay of dominant physical processes in the studied sources. The mutual exchange of analysis techniques and versatility will be beneficial in broadening knowledge and refining skills related to big-data handling and deep learning processes. We also plan to work towards active engagement of interested amateurs through regular organization of outreach activities. |
