Executive Summary : | The onset of this century visited the shale gas revolution in energy sector and the relevant technology advancements prompts fast-tracked progress on identification and exploitation of the gas shales in India. The main motivation for the research is to develop a detailed understanding of the shale characteristics and the reservoir development potential. Novel R&D facilities will be built as a part of this project and critical issues such geomechanical response of shale, initiation and propagation of fractures, effective gas capacity, expected resource recovery will be addressed in the proposed study. In sync with the objectives of IMPRINT, the developed knowhow on Indian shale reservoirs will be translated into a viable process to extract more natural gas to meet the growing energy demands of the country. The knowledge sharing and technology transfer to the relevant industry will strongly contribute to serious shale gas development in India. |
