Breakthrough Prize

The Breakthrough Prizes honour immensely important, primarily recent, achievements in the categories of Fundamental Physics, Life Sciences and Mathematics. Committees of previous laureates choose the winners from candidates nominated in a process that?s online and open to the public. Laureates receive US$ 3 million each in prize money. They attend a televised award ceremony designed to celebrate their achievements and inspire the next generation of scientists. As part of the ceremony schedule, they also engage in a program of lectures and discussions.

Abel Prize

The Abel Prize was established by the Norwegian government in 2002 on the occasion of the 200th birth anniversary of Niels Henrik Abel. The Abel Prize recognizes contributions to the field of mathematics that are of extraordinary depth and influence. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters awards the Abel Prize based on recommendation from the Abel committee. The prize carries a cash award of 6 million NOK.

Abdus Salam Medal

It was instituted in 1995 to honour the Academy's founder cum first president, Nobel Laureate Prof. Abdus Salam. The Medal is awarded to highly distinguished personalities who have served the cause of science in the Developing World.

PMS Blackett Memorial Lecture and Jagadis Chandra Bose Memorial Lecture

These Lectureships Awards are given to a scientist of high international repute in any branch of science. Scientists from all nations are eligible for consideration. The nominations are invited from the entire Fellowship of the Academy. These awards, established in 2011, would be given once in 3 years alternatively i.e. 2013 (first Blackett Memorial lecture), 2016 (first Jagadis Chandra Bose Memorial lecture), 2019 (second Blackett Memorial lecture) and so on. The Lectureships carry an honorarium of Rs. 25,000/- and a citation.

Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award (IYBA)

Har Govind Khorana-Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award (IYBA) initiated in 2005, is an attractive, career-oriented scheme to identify and nurture outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and desirous of pursuing research in frontier areas of biotechnology. Young scientists up to the age of 35 years are considered for this award. Scientists without regular employment are also eligible for this award. A two-tier selection process is adopted for selecting the awardees every year. The expert committee may bestow the award to a maximum of 25 candidates.

J C Bose National Fellowship

The J C Bose fellowship is awarded to active scientists in recognition to their record of outstanding performance, apparent from the award of SS Bhatnagar prize or other such prestigious awards or fellowship of science academies (including engineering, agriculture and medicine). The fellowship is scientist-specific and very selective. The fellowship amount is Rs.25000 per month in addition to regular income. It also includes Research grant of Rs.15 Lakh per annum and Overhead of Rs.1 Lakh per annum to the host institute.

Biotech Product, Process Development and Commercialization Award

From 2001 onwards, these awards have been instituted by DBT to be given every year on 11th May, the Technology Day in recognition of outstanding contributions of scientists / innovators / entrepreneurs/ Indian institutions and companies both in public as well as private sector for a new process, product development and commercialization of a technology or a product in the areas of biotechnology and biological sciences.

National Award for Technology Start-ups

On 25th May 1998, the then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, announced that 11th May would henceforth be celebrated as Technology Day. TDB instituted the ‘National Award for the successful commercialization of Indigenous Technology’ to be awarded every year on the Technology Day. The objective is to forge powerful partnerships and proactively facilitate interactions and networking between Industry, National Laboratories, Academic Institutions, Scientists, Technocrats and Specialists, to gain entry into global market.
