Shellac is widely known for its electrical insulating properties. It is the oldest material of natural origin, being utilized for insulating purposes. It is used in the form of varnish/lacquer or in manufacture of laminated products. Salient features: The varnish is suitable for use as anti-tracking varnish/lacquer, for coating of coils/armatures of electric motors, transformers etc.,for finishing of components of electronic/elements instruments/machines and also for manufacturing laminated products. The varnish has been tested on electrical motor up to 20-hp satisfactory. The varnish is based on the indigenous raw material, does not require any special skill of the manufacturer, and no sophisticated machinery is involved in its manufacture. The process does not liberate any waste/by-product, reducing environment pollution. Moreover, shellac being natural, is an environmental friendly, non-hazardous material.
