National Centre for High Pressure Studies (NCHPS), Kolkata

The National Centre for High Pressure Studies (NCHPS) at IISER Kolkata aims to foster interdisciplinary and collaborative research in the field of Natural Sciences, Materials Sciences and Geosciences. NCHPS focuses on fundamental studies of structural changes and novel phase transitions of both naturally occurring and designed materials that occur under extreme conditions, using an integration of theory and experimentThe centre has facilities to achieve megabar pressures and very high temperatures using laser heated diamond anvil cell (LHDAC).

Output & Achievements: 1. Centre has published 45 research publications in high impact indexed journals recently 2. Centre carries collaborative research work with S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, IIT Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and with other departments at IISER, Kolkata 3. NCHPS has established high end research facilities including such as Micro-Raman Spectrometer, advance computational facility, low temperature facilities, hydraullic press and transport measurement, loading station and drilling machines
