Coconut palm botanically known as Coicous nucifera L. belongs to the family of Arecaceae (Palmae), which is an important member of monocotyledons. Coconut is an unique crop, where every part is useful in one-way or the other. The economic importance of the crop is quite evident from the fact that is is grown in more than 80 countries of the world. In recent times, coconut trees grown in several Asian countries have been largely affected by mite Acerai guerreronis attach and the repercussion is worse than the attack of other pests and debilitating diseases like root wilt, ganoderma wilt, Thanjavur wilt and tatipaka disease. Coconut sap is being traditionally tapped from coconut in an un-organized manner and consumed largely by rural population. It is reported to be a good digestive, facilitating cleare urination and preventing jaundice.
