Brief Description
Description : | G filters are gravity based frustum shaped clay ceramic water filters. An E. coli bacteria removal efficiency of around 2.8 LRV is achieved using these clay ceramic water filters. Filtration rate of 1-3 liters per hour is observed from household users in locations across India. For different geographical location, clay type, sawdust or organic material changes. The G filter receptacle is produced by baking the press formed clay and organic material composites of frustum shapes mixed together in specific proportions as per the clay and organic material type available at the region. Therefore IIT Jodhpur students and engineers try to visit rural locations across India to teach the technology to the potters and make them aware of the properties of locally available clay and organic materials such as sawdust. During this process, master potters are produced who can teach this technology further to other potters in the local region. The life of the G filters are around 2-3 years. It also evolves awareness to cleanliness and hygiene in people using the G filters. The main aim providing potable water to the society living at the bottom of the economic pyramid is met with this technology as well as indigenous household manufacturing skill development in rural villages is also propped through this clay ceramic technology. The research behind the G filter was of a collaborative nature with IIT Jodhpur joining hands with colleagues from M. G University, Kottayam and RRCAT, Indore. |
