Executive Summary :

The project aims to create a coating with similar or better performance to hard chrome coatings using high velocity oxy fuel (HVOF) technology and arc vacuum PVD technology. The coating is expected to improve hardness, wear resistance, and anti-corrosive performance. Composite PVD coatings like AlCrN/ZrCN are deposited on the HVOF sprayed Carbide-NiCr coatings surface, enhancing adhesion to the steel substrate and reducing cracking probability. The synergetic effect of combining different coatings is crucial, with the lower HVOF layer acting as a protective run-in layer. The coating system's sliding adhesive wear resistance and corrosion resistance will be evaluated using Ball-on-disc tribometers and electrochemical corrosion setups.
