Executive Summary :

Advancements in technology are transforming farming practices in India, with livestock farming being a significant economic backbone. Current methods for livestock identification, such as labeling, tattooing, ear tagging, and RFIDs, are debated for animal rights and efficacy. Biometric identification is now a popular method in India, allowing faster and accurate identification. This proposal aims to study Indian cattle breeds for accurate identification using local feature-based methods. The study will involve four phases: acquiring a detailed cattle database, studying potential feature sets from multiple biometric traits, subjecting refined data to deep learning models, and testing the refined algorithm over constrained and unconstrained data. The database will be used for health monitoring, aging, and breeding-based research.
