Executive Summary :

A cost-effective hand-held prototype of a narrow band optical absorption-based sensing system is being developed for precise Chromium detection in waste water. The device will overcome challenges of non-linearity and sensitivity through innovative optical design. Initial trials have been conducted to overcome interference from inorganic salts and textile dyes. To commercialize the device, scale up is needed through replicating the prototype and investigating reproducibility and variability of inter-device parameters. Funding is sought in partnership with an industry. The product development caters to local testing centers in remote areas and Chromium industry outlets in urban and rural sectors, addressing the scarcity of complex scientific testing equipment and trained manpower.
