Executive Summary :

The project aims to design and deploy a Water and Energy Pinch Analysis tool for optimal use of water and energy in the process industry. It also focuses on the development and optimization of a hybrid UF-MD/FO process for industrial wastewater treatment and valuable recovery. The tool will integrate solar thermal, heat engine, and MD processes for better heat recovery and improved COP. The project will demonstrate a UF-MD/FO hybrid pilot plant for recovery of spent acid effluent from oil and gas refineries and metal industries.

This project seeks to optimize water use in the industrial sector by developing a software tool for water and energy pinch analysis, an energy-efficient hybrid UF-FO/MD process for water reuse and resource recovery, and an optimized process flowsheet for recovering metal from oil and gas refinery pitch and spent acid effluent from the metal industry. It also focuses to minimize freshwater consumption, reduce energy consumption, and reduce CO2 emissions by adopting solar thermal for thermal energy. The project's key questions include identifying opportunities for water reuse, minimizing industrial wastewater treatment costs, and utilizing renewable energy sources.
