Indo-Australia Early and Mid-Career Researchers (EMCR) Fellowship

This scheme is designed to support Indian scientists/researchers to travel to Australia to work with leading researchers at major Australian science and technology institutions/ universities/ organizations and conducting advanced research / undergoing specialized training in chosen frontline areas of Science & Technology. This initiative aims to support the development of research skills and networks and facilitate access to specialized equipment and training. It intends to facilitate long-term science, technology and innovation collaboration between India and Australia, developing the researchers’ leadership skills as future ‘science ambassadors’ for India and providing a catalyst for future India-Australia research collaborations. 15 Fellowships are awarded every year. This scheme is administered by Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi.

Eligibility: The applicant should be Indian national, residing in India, holding a regular position in a recognized S&T Institution/University and actively engaged in research work in frontline areas. He/she must have been awarded their Ph.D. degree within 10 years of the submitting fellowship application and should be less than 45 years of age. Applicants must not have been awarded an Indo-Australia Visiting Fellowship earlier.

Fellowship amount: A fellowship of USD 3000/- per month and Contingency grant of Rs. 25,000/- (to cover visa charges, medical insurance etc.) is given. The cost of to and fro air passage in economy upto Rs. 1 Lakh is provided. The Fellows are also entitled to a grant of USD 1200/- for travel within the host country for attending approved conference/workshop or visit to other institute of interest etc. Fellowships of 3 to 9 months duration are provided to EMCR Fellows.
