Executive Summary :

Climate change is causing hazards and vulnerabilities in mountain regions, including increased risk of glacial outburst floods and reduced water resources. The National Summer School in Glaciology (NSSG) at the Centre of Excellence for Glacial Studies, University of Kashmir aims to enhance the human and institutional capacities of Indian students and researchers in various aspects of glaciology and allied fields. The program will be held annually from 2022 to 2027, targeting early-stage PhD students in glaciology, earth and environmental sciences from various institutes. Qualified applicants will be selected based on their experience, interest, and commitment to glaciology. The course will cover theoretical aspects of glaciology, glacio-hydrology, glacial-geomorphology, climate change, remote sensing, and related theoretical aspects of glaciology. The program will include daily lectures, exercises, group projects, presentations, and field work. The Centre of Excellence for Glacial Studies is an inter-disciplinary research effort involving researchers across various domains of glaciology, hydrology, and climate change, with a geographic focus on the Himalayan region.
