Executive Summary :

The project aims at the Geospatial Data Processing Technologies for the medium resolution satellite data and using the developed technology to map and monitor the Glacial Lakes. The Glacial lakes are very important part of the Himalayan Geomorphology. Studies show that the Lakes are increasing in number and size which poses threat to the downstream areas. The techniques available till now required multiple manual inputs which is time consuming and the quality of results also decreases. Moreover, the reproducibility of the data is also difficult using the manual or semi-automated methods. Therefore, the project aims to develop a fully automated method for glacial lake mapping and monitoring including some early warning system. Objectives 1 Development of novel, automated methodology utilising deep learning for glacial lake mapping using medium resolution satellite data. 2 Exploring the potential of developed methodology for creating time-series glacial lake inventory for the Himalayas. 3 Lake Change detection and flagging of potentially dangerous lakes.
