Executive Summary :

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are a promising technology for sustainable energy harvesting, particularly in health monitoring applications. They harness mechanical energy to generate electricity, making them ideal for wearable devices. The triboelectrification phenomenon, which occurs when two different surface charge layers come into contact and separate, results in electrical charging. TENGs are flexible, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly, making them ideal for health monitoring. Their output performance can be enhanced by carefully selecting triboelectric pairs based on the triboelectric series. Lead-free perovskite nanoparticles have unique dielectric properties due to their non-centrosymmetric structure and low binding energy of valence electrons. By modifying their composition and morphology, the dielectric properties of perovskites can be easily adjusted to enhance TENGs' output performance. This proposal aims to develop two types of TENGs for health monitoring applications: a hybrid mode TENG (HTENG) that combines vertical contact-separation and lateral sliding modes, and a single electrode TENG (STENG) based on 2D lead-free perovskite nanoparticles. The flexible single electrode TENG will be made from carbon/polymer/biocompatible ion gel, PDMS, and Ecoflex, with a positive layer of polyamide or mica sheet. TENGs can monitor physiological activities, gesture recognition, and sign language recognition for people with language impairments. This project contributes to the development of sustainable and safe energy harvesting technologies for health monitoring using lead-free perovskite.
