Executive Summary :

Gel electrophoresis is a basis of various biochemical methods routinely used in biological laboratory for screening, isolation, and purification of the charged macromolecules such as proteins and DNA fragments. Continuous improvisation of the electrophoretic technique has taken place depending on the specific requirements in the biological application. Many innovative variations are developed and the mechanism of the motion of the charged proteins or DNA has been theoretically investigated. It has been proposed that there exists solid friction at the interface of DNA –Gel matrix while maneuvering through the pores of gel. In the proposed work, we would like to investigate the dynamics of charged particles or macromolecules during electrophoresis and the nature of the friction experienced by the object. In earlier studies, it is shown that detachment of a soft object from a rigid platform can take place at a subcritical load in the presence of external noise. We would like to exploit this finding and explore the possibility of faster screening in the presence of external noise in the electrophoretic scenario.
