Executive Summary :

Cooking and heating are crucial household activities that consume significant energy. Efforts have been made to improve the energy efficiency of cooking appliances, with the overall efficiency of a cook top burner determined by combustion and heat transfer performances. However, there is limited research on the potential of biogas cook stove burners due to their typical chemical composition and low heating value. Most biogas burners are designed using trial and error methods, with efficiency ranging from 43 to 56%. The present proposal focuses on designing and developing an energy-efficient biogas cook stove burner. A systemic approach will be adopted to find the optimum burner parameters using commercial computational fluid dynamics software. Different parameters such as burner port area, port size, number of burner ports, length of mixing tube, and burner loading height will be varied to find the optimum burner for efficient burning of biogas. Based on the CFD analysis, a new burner will be fabricated and performance and emission analysis will be conducted. The total budgetary estimation for the project, including manpower, equipment, software, contingencies, and institute overhead charges, is approximately 39 lakhs.
