Executive Summary : | The brain's neuro-architecture is influenced by glial cells, which retain the mitotic nature of cell division after generation. These cells act as neural progenitors and facilitate synaptic plasticity, regulating neuronal development and physiology. However, studying genetic, molecular, and mechanistic aspects of glial cells is challenging due to methodological limitations. Genetic models like C. elegans offer advantages in studying neuronal and glial cells in functional aspects. The study aims to study the "basic helix loop helix transcription family" that guides embryonic neurogenesis and axon development, as well as the evolutionarily conserved members like human Olig2 (C. elegans orthologue hlh-17). The study also aims to study ptr-10, a protein enriched in glial cells, and its role in neurodegeneration and repair. |
