Executive Summary :

Rare earth doped phosphor materials are widely used in various industrial fields due to their low phonon energy, high photoluminescence efficiency, and chemical and thermal stability. They are used in displays devices, solid state lighting, fluorescent lamps, and white light emitting sources. Some rare earth-based chloride phosphor materials are useful in storage materials, rewritable and erasable memory, and halide-based phosphor materials are useful in scintillator, thermo-luminescence dosimetry, and lamp industry. The Eu3 ion is widely used to dope in different host materials, resulting in red photoluminescence due to the downconversion process. Lanthanide oxides of rare earth materials, such as Y2O3, La2O3, and Gd2O3, are widely used as red-light emitting phosphors in display devices. This project aims to develop rare earth activated Ln2O3 phosphors for various applications, such as LED lighting, TLD, and Scintillator. The project will test reproducibility, cost effectiveness, and use of indigenous raw materials in the synthesis, compare developed phosphors with commercial phosphors, and synthesize new phosphors for light-emitting diode LED and radiation dosimetry using thermoluminescence and scintillator studies.
