Executive Summary : | Analyses, design and fabrication of small scale prototypical hybrid (latent and sensible) thermal storage systems for mid to high temperature range of (200-500 °C) based on the following technology concepts. a.) PCM encapsulation, b.) encapsulated/unencapsulated nanoparticle based molten salt thermocline and c.) PCM-graphite blocks. Test the projected efficiencies (80-90 %) and system level performance of the three individual technologies. In particular, the project aims to look into the nanoparticle based molten salt thermocline technology concept that has the potential to be a game changer in terms of space, efficiency and high temperature storage. |
