Executive Summary : | The availability of vast amounts of genomic data covering the complete genome has resulted from recent breakthroughs in whole genome sequencing, notably the evolution of next generation sequencing technologies. The whole genome sequencing of many plant genomes resulted in massive amounts of sequence data are now available in public databases. Processing and interpreting huge genomic datasets, as well as getting functional insights into plant genomes is very crucial. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the major staple food for over and above half of the world's population. The sequencing data creates a "digital library" of the 3,000 accessions, allowing natural genetic differences in rice to be identified. Despite the fact that several high-yielding rice varieties are developed each year, the yield potential of these cultivars is strongly influenced by biotic and abiotic stressors. Heat stress and low P tolerance have become severe hazards to rice production among many abiotic stresses. In the present study the genetic variation available for 3K rice genomes will be captured and utilized for the identification of superior haplotypes. Introgression of these identified superior haplotypes through rigorous haplotype-based breeding will aid in the development of next-generation rice varieties that meet future food and nutrition security needs in a world of changing climatic conditions. |
