Executive Summary :

The theme of this proposal is to design and synthesize B-N coordinated boron based fluorescent compounds and study their applications towards sensing, catalysis and fabrication of organic light emitting diodes etc. Tetra-coordinated boron based fluorescent materials have received considerable attraction owing to their potential applications in the field of photovoltaics, sensors, organic light emitting diodes, and organic field-effect transistors. Among the different tetra-coordinated boron based fluorescent materials B-N coordinated boron compounds gained attention in recent times owing to their better photophysical properties and stabilities. Although the synthetic methodologies for B-N coordinated boron compounds are established their applications are scarcely studied. This proposal aims to synthesize new B-N coordinated boron based fluorescent compounds such as phenanthroimidazole, pyrazole based compounds with additional functionality. The functional groups will be utilized to make derivatives of these compounds. For example, B-N coordinated aldehyded functionalized compounds will be made and utilized to make salen. salen is another important ligand system studied for making different metal complexes which had applications in catalysis especially asymmetric catalysis and other areas. The metal-salen thus synthesized will act as photo-catalysts, sensors or to make circularly polarized luminescent molecules (or) to make OLEDs.
