Executive Summary :

Project aims to design an architectural layout using principles of solar passive architecture and Vastu, to reduce energy consumption of the house using building simulation software, work and develop innovations on various sun parts of the house, integration of renewable energy sources like solar PV and solar thermal with the house, to perform extensive research on construction materials of the house through literature and industry, to make a complete design of a prefabricated house keeping in mind sustainability cost and ease of procurement, to fabricate and construct this house in IIT, to perform extensive testing of house before dismantling and shipping to France for Solar Decathlon Europe competition, to assemble and showcase the house on international platform with teams from 15 other countries, and to bring back and re-construct the house in Mumbai for future long term monitoring.

Outcome/Output:

a. Use as R&D facility / living laboratory for Solar PV, Solar Thermal and Green Building Research at IIT Bombay, b. Hands-on experience for students in technology development, c. Learning opportunity for students; exposure to Solar PV, Phase Change Materials and green building sector, d. Skill development in areas related to Solar PV, Passive Solar buildings and energy efficiency, e. Increasing awareness about renewable and green buildings and sustainability among various audiences in India through the team's communications and social awareness programs.
