The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Special Innovation Unit (UNIK) of Prime Minister’s Department of Malaysia entered into a cooperative agreement in the area of research & development, innovation and commercialization of technology in October, 2010. Under the agreement, establishment of a Joint Innovation Accelerator Centre in Malaysia is envisage  for research  in areas of mutual interest as green technology, water treatment, medicinal and aromatic plants and  other innovative technologies.  It also encourages exchange of scientific experts; production of joint reports of publications; and exchange study visits. Both CSIR and UNIK will also explore and develop the use of herbs, plants, flowers and fruits for medicinal and aromatic purposes in Malaysia by extraction methodologies.
