Bilateral Cooperations
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India has joined hands with United Kingdom in different sectoral areas. Some of the key partnering agencies from UK are DFID, BBSRC, and MRC. Department has already funded four projects in the area of sustainable crop development in partnership with DFID and BSSRC; Cancer research programme project with Queen’s University, Belfast. The UK Medical Research Council (MRC) and Department for Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India, have partnered to fund three major global research centres. Out of the three centres, two of them will focus on research into antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the other on cancer biology. Nearly £3.5million will be invested by the UK and the matching funds will be provided by DBT.
