Executive Summary :

Objective: The Advanced Material Mission (AMM) comprise of 5 major work components that include 1. Electrochromic devices, 2. Opto-electronic devices, 3. Wearable/flexible devices, 4. Bio-implants, and 5. Metamaterials devices. The project is aimed to develop new advance materials, in most cases they are envisaged to be cost effective and also to develop devices/product/prototype that perform better and efficiently and have relatively low energy footprint. These outcomes will immensely contribute to the self-reliance of the nation for advanced technologies in the area of advanced electronics, opto-electronic devices, and health care sector. New materials and undertake the associated research required to mature their application in the deliverable device/prototype/product for cutting edge applications, by the cohesive multidisciplinary R&D efforts; Alternative transparent conducting material and intrinsic white light emitting materials for opto-electronic devices applications; New advance materials for electrochromic, wearable/flexible hand-held devices application; Piezoelectric materials for designing nano-generators; Bio-implants and anti-inflammatory nanogel for arthritis treatment; Metamaterials for broadband EM absorber (250 – 2500 nm), band emitter (0.1 – 5 µm) well as a surface for radiative cooling; and Upscale the microwave-assisted iron-making process to reach 100 kg/day scale using Nagaland and allied iron ores

Summary: CSIR has recently launched a Mission Mode Project on the “Development of Advanced Materials and Devices for Opto-electronic, Biomedical and Strategic ApplicationsThe aims to develop new materials and undertake the associate research required to mature their application in the deliverable device / prototype / product for cutting edge applications, by the cohesive multidisciplinary R&D efforts of CSIR laboratories. It is specifically focused on advanced optoelectronic materials, meta-materials, bio-implants, and un-conventional composite materials and their device development, which is expected to make a big technological intervention and their outcome, can set forth the translational outcome in the subsequent years to come. The multifaceted outcome of the project will lead to many technologies for optoelectronic, healthcare (e-skin), bio-implant, armor, automobile, and other applications. All of these technologies will immensely contribute to the self-reliance of the nation and have good market potential. The project is led by CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar.
