Executive Summary : | Floods are significant water-related phenomena that impact human activities and the environment. Indian sub-continental rivers are closely linked to monsoonal climates, with high magnitude floods being the most destructive and widespread meteorological hazards. The Kaveri River, one of the largest rivers in Peninsular India, is frequently affected by large magnitude floods. Recent high magnitude floods in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Pondicherry have raised questions about the relationship between floods and climatic change or human impact. Flood hydrologists and geomorphologists are now studying historical, geological, and geomorphological records to estimate the magnitude and frequency of large floods. |
