Executive Summary :

The project aims to validate, intercompare, and assess Ocean Forecasting and Analysis Systems (OFAS) for BRICS countries using regional observations. It will implement high-resolution OFAS configurations in five model regions for improved regional multipurpose ocean hindcasting and forecasting. The project will also provide capacity building through two training workshops on Operational Oceanography in BRICS countries. The analysis will involve utilizing global analysis products and datasets from each country's region.

The objective is to implement high-resolution Operational Oceanographic Systems (OAS) in specific sites through pilot studies. China will provide the surface wave-tide-circulation coupled model and cooperate with partners to develop such systems. India will develop an OFAS based on the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) for the Bay of Bengal, Brazil will develop an OFAS based on DELFT3D for the Bay of Guanabara, South Africa will develop bay-scale OFAS systems for key coastal regions, and Russia will develop an OFAS for the Barents Sea and the Kara Sea. Capacity building will be provided through two training/workshops focusing on Operational Oceanography in BRICS countries.
