Executive Summary :

The Indian government's ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2070 has accelerated the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) as a sustainable mode of transportation. The EV market is growing at a CAGR of 66.52 percentage during the forecast period of 2022-2029. Onboard Battery Chargers (OBCs) are essential for converting grid voltage into suitable voltage for charging EV batteries. The onboard chargers must be compact and have high power density to meet the space constraints of modern EVs. Topology morphing configurations are being explored to achieve a wide operating voltage range in bidirectional OBCs without using additional components. The project aims to develop topology morphing configurations for high-voltage battery architectures and high-power OBCs.

This proposal aims to develop high-performance compact bidirectional OBCs for high-voltage battery architectures. The project will focus on designing a 7.4 kW bidirectional OBC with a DC link voltage of 400 V and a DC output voltage of 200-950 V. Topology morphing will be explored for medium-power and high-power applications, with an emphasis on modulation strategies and magnetic design for improved efficiency and power density.
