Executive Summary : | Khandwa district, formerly known as East Nimar, is a central Indian district in the Madhya Pradesh state. It covers an area of 6206 km² and has a population of 1,310,061 according to the 2011 census. The district is located in the Nimar region, which includes the lower valley of the Narmada River, Kherkhali River, Choti Tawa River, and Shiva River. Khandwa was surrendered to the British Raj in 1818 and later became part of the Central Provinces and Berar. After India's independence in 1947, it became the new Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. In 2006, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Khandwa one of the country's 250 most backward districts. Khandwa is currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programmed. The district aims to generate awareness and promote a scientific attitude, especially in rural areas with illiterate populations who lack proper resources and support. |
