Executive Summary :

The study aims to synthesize anthraquinone derivatives cost-effectively, develop a 1kW/5kWh redox flow battery system, and analyze the cost-savings of DC-DC operation over DC-DC-AC operation. The proposed organic material, based on anthraquinone, is widely used in India's dyeing industry and is environmentally friendly. The proposed organic material exhibits good stability with negligible capacity decay, making it suitable for this work. The cost target set by the US Department of Energy for electrical energy storage is 150/kWh, and the proposed redox flow battery system offers significant cost savings. The project will save significantly on the electricity bill of Indian families and industries, as photovoltaic PV electricity is becoming cheaper. The industry, Omega Farma, will support a manpower and equipment augmentation of the existing facility for 1kW/5kWh stack testing.
