Executive Summary : | This project aims to elucidate with thrust on observing and simulating TC eyewall structure and its surrounding environment using Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) data and Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) high resolution model for landfalling TC. It is well known that TC landfall is a complex and rapidly changing scenario with modulated intense winds, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and storm surge situations. However, it is still challenging to quantify and understand the major drives and mechanisms for these life threating situations in the TC eyewall area. This project is dedicated towards understanding the eye structure and its environment from the DWR data and WRF high resolution simulations with a lead time up to day-3. The focus of this work is to understand the errors and biases both in the WRF model and DWR data while capturing the storm core structure as it approaches towards the coast. |
