Executive Summary :

The project aims to integrate micro grid components with cyber systems to develop controllers using ML/AI techniques, optimize grid operation by scheduling Distributed Generators, ensure power balance, and develop adaptive protection schemes. The technical viability of developing micro grids as cyber physical energy systems will be demonstrated through local control by a master controller. The choice of operating mode will be intelligently chosen based on real power generation, forecasted loads, storage availability, and grid power marginalization. Power balance management will be ensured through advanced metering infrastructure and communication technologies. Thyristor-controlled capacitor banks will provide compensation levels. The proposed adaptive protection scheme aims to improve the resilience of micro grids by analyzing fault current levels at different operating conditions. A machine learning algorithm will be used to predict faults and reduce the probability of faults. The system will communicate system information through Zigbee-based communication to a master controller, which will identify faults and initiate protective action. The proposed prototype will demonstrate the technical viability of integrating micro grids with cyber systems, enhancing energy forecasting, optimizing generation scheduling, and controlling hardware.
