Executive Summary : | Geolocation of ground sources from space based platforms has significant applications where the source itself may not be able to transmit its location, for example, low power sensors used for wildlife tracking. Such techniques are also important for search and rescue payloads. Considering the need to reduce the Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) of the payload, this project aims to develop a technique which provides accurate source localization with the minimum possible number of sensors (sparse array) and optimum spacing between the sensors for a given performance requirement. The performance of the proposed technique is being compared to other known techniques such as TDOA, FDOA etc. in terms of geolocation accuracy and minimum SNR required for detection. |
