Executive Summary :

In recent times countless designed micro-devices such as “Lab on Chip” are widespread in various biotechnological or medical engineering investigations. Such devices are enabled engineers to carry out experiments with less cost and a quick outcome. Again, the transport mechanism of microbes through micro-channels relates to many fluid flows which have numerous applications ranging from medical examination kits, thermal insulation, and crude oil extraction to safe disposal of chemical or biomedical fluids in the environment. Also, the bioconvection has popular biomedical applications for getting fast dissolving solid particles, nano-drug preparations, and in drug delivery. The investigations of bioconvection phenomena were adopted by different premier institutes abroad and most of the premier universities and institutes of India, still it is going on in three ways: theoretical, experimental, and numerical. Extensive numbers of research in the field of bioconvective transport occurring from uniform-shaped bodies have been reported by the researchers. There are enormous bio-medical application of microfluidics in accompanied with suspended microbes like viruses and bacteria. As per my knowledge, the transport of microbes (Such as virus/bacteria) through micro-channels have not been investigated by researchers. Thus, this research proposal is intended to analyze the transport of microbes through channel/ micro-channels and around arbitrary shaped geometries under some feasible real-world utility. For that a suitable mathematical modeling of the physical situation considering flow of microbes in microchannels will be established without violating any realistic criteria. Thereafter, appropriate analytical/ numerical techniques will be applied for finding the solutions to the governing equations. Also, the attempt will be made to find the influence of several effects on the quantities of physical interest to understand the bioconvection phenomena of microorganisms in different flow situations in micro-channels. Finally, the solutions will be compared with the earlier published results under some special case whenever it is available and then conclusions will be drawn. The main goal of this project is to contribute some new findings/ideas in the proposed field and to support researchers to move on to future research work based on the outcome of the project. Advanced knowledge of microorganism’s transport phenomena will help to design/ create/control the system for requisite purpose. Hence, the theoretical investigation of dispersion of microbes in different confined geometries in micro-scale relates this proposal in some real life problems like decontamination of ground water, bio contamination and nosocomial infection, etc.
