Executive Summary : | The study aims to evaluate the change in bacterial load and granulation tissue area in wounds of acute musculoskeletal injury patients using a wall-mounted uro-bag-based negative pressure wound therapy device. The research is conducted at the Department of Orthopaedics, Dr BSA Hospital, Rohini, Delhi, from November 2022 to April 2024. The study design is a prospective interventional study, with the objective to measure the change in granulation tissue area before and after the application of the wall-mounted NPWT device and the decrease in the bacterial load of wounds before and following the application. The study will involve 50 patients of either sex over 18 years of age with acute musculoskeletal trauma of under 3 weeks duration who have undergone one debridement and require subsequent soft tissue/flap coverage. The wounds will be exposed after a detailed clinical evaluation with written informed consent. The granulation tissue coverage and bacteriological count will be assessed before and after the application of the low-cost NPWT device. Any changes in the wound's granulation tissue coverage and bacteriological count will be documented and analyzed. |
